Arcadis and offsite construction specialist Caledonian Modular have signed a collaborative partnership agreement. Focusing specifically on the residential sector, Arcadis will work with Caledonian to develop new modular designs and to build additional capacity in the commercial and technical delivery of new housing.
The use of modular technology is becoming increasingly popular in the residential sector. Not only can it help to increase the capacity of the construction industry by making more productive use of scarce labour and skills, it can also offer greater certainty in scheduling, along with additional quality, performance and safety benefits.
As part of the partnership Arcadis will bring residential insight and expertise, along with design and construction management support. This will allow Caledonian to focus on building its manufacturing and delivery capacity. It means that, together, both partners can offer a fully integrated housing solution, from initial design concept through manufacturing, construction and completion.
To lead the growing focus on modular construction, Arcadis has also made a new senior level appointment to oversee the development of its modular strategy across the UK. Jim Totton will be taking on the role of Technical Director for Modular Buildings Design and Delivery, a role that he previously held at Aecom. Jim will work across all sectors, but particularly Residential and Education, with a focus on further developing Arcadis’ ability to support its clients in the delivery of prefabricated solutions and modular buildings. He will also be a key supporter of the partnership with Caledonian.
