Caledonian Modular, has secured a £4m full turnkey design and build contract with Whittington Health NHS Trust for the provision of clinical education facility.

Caledonian have supported the client’s team through the design and planning process andwill now deliver the new, three-storey building to replace the derelict Waterlow Unit on the Highgate Hill side of the site. The new facility is a key strategic enabler for a much broader programme of redevelopment that will make room for a new mental health hospital at Whittington hospital.

Caledonian was appointed following a competitive tender process having demonstrated the success of long term working partnerships with many NHS Trusts, consultants and leading construction companies in the healthcare sector delivering high quality, energy efficient buildings to demanding timescales within operational hospitals.

A key advantage of using an offsite volumetric solution allows the existing Whittington Education Centre to continue to operate as usual until the new facility is ready in early 2020.

He added;“Our modular solution will create a modern, efficient and fit-for-purposeeducation facility in exceptionally quick timescales with minimal disruption tothe ongoing operation of the Hospital.”

With over 85% of the building work completed at Caledonian’s 40-acre Newark production facility the offsite manufactured solution will deliver a high quality three storey-building with 80% less site labour, zero waste to landfill and will be completed 50% quicker than a conventional build.
