South London Borough Plans First Modular Social Rent Development

Lewisham Homes, the housing management arm of Lewisham Council, has received planning permission for a 25-home development which will be its first modular cross-laminated timber development.

Lewisham Homes, the housing management arm of Lewisham Council, has received planning permission for a 25-home development which will be its first modular cross-laminated timber development.

All of the homes in the Kenton Court development will be for social rent as part of the local authority and Lewisham Homes’ borough-wide programme which aims to develop 500 homes across Lewisham for social rent.

The development will consist of mainly family homes arranged around a landscaped courtyard.

Andrew Waugh, director of the scheme’s architect Waugh Thistleton, said: “We are very excited to be delivering Lewisham Homes’ first cross-laminated timber modular housing scheme. This scheme is an innovative use of a small site in south London that will deliver highly sustainable social homes for the people of Lewisham.”

Kenton Court will replace a vacant three-story building that was previously used as a residential care facility, which has now been replaced by new build care facilities in another part of Lewisham.
